Going natural: why so many of us are simplifying our skincare routine

by Melissa Stancati

Did you know that your skin is actually your body’s largest organ? It also acts as a shield against the myriad of environmental elements we encounter in our daily lives, therefore taking care of your skin health is extremely important. Whilst using a variety of products can improve skin texture, tone, brightness and bounce – it could also impair our delicate skin barrier and leave us with sensitized, red, irritated skin, that needs a simplified, gentle routine and a little TLC.

Cue natural ingredients. Nourishing Omegas, calming Chamomile and skin boosting Vitamins, absorb into the skin can increase our levels of collagen, oxygen and blood flow, thus repairing free radical damage and nourishing our skin, think of it as skin food.

Natural ingredients have been used in skincare and medicine for thousands of years. Cleopatra is said to have used Rosewater for its healing and beautifying purposes, while in Ancient Greece, dried herbs and flowers were added to baths to cleanse and detoxify the skin.

Honey, Milk, Olive or Safflower Oils, Pomegranate and Green Tea can also be found in countless ancient beauty treatments, used across the world for a variety of benefits.

In modern skincare, natural ingredients are sought for their effectiveness, while also being gentle on the skin. They can be used to fragrance products or as the base of a formula - such as Shea or Almond Oil, which are universally sought out for their nourishing skin benefits.

Natio’s approach is to combine the best of nature and science to make formulations that are safe, stable, and achieve results. Botanical plant and flower essences, pure essential oils and cold-pressed oils are used throughout the range, ensuring all skin types, conditions and ages are catered for.

Some of the favourites include:

Rosewater: Mother Nature’s remarkably multi-tasking skincare elixir, Rosewater has been used for centuries to remedy almost all skincare concerns. It can balance surface oils, hydrate and gives skin a hypercharged nutrient boost.

In the skin, it is linked to improvements in moisture levels, elasticity and firmness, and the way skin responds to stresses. The oil is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, and can help in acne control and cell regeneration, making this ingredient a real skin-saviour.

Pomegranate: High in antioxidants, Pomegranate has multiple benefits for the skin - including helping to fight free radicals. This term is used to describe atoms in the environment (which can be caused by pollution or the sun) that attach themselves to the skin, causing damage such as collagen loss or wrinkles. Skincare containing natural antioxidants and vitamins, like Pomegranate, can help to defend against free radical damage, thus protecting the complexion.
